Chazar - Borculo, the Netherlands - Figurative Public Sculpture on Waymarking.com

Before WW II, the small town of Borculo had quite a large Jewish Community. There was also a Synagogue and a Ritual Bathhouse.
As in so many places in the Netherlands, many of the Jewish citizens of Borculo did not survive WW II.
In order to remember them eight so called Stolpersteine were placed here in front of the houses the victims used to live in.

As an extra memorial, sculptor Jan te Kulve has made a lifelike statue of a Chazar. A Chazar is the singer in the synagogue. He starts the chants and the members of the Jewish congregation follow him in the chants. Sometimes the Chazar also leads the service. The bronze statue was made in 2017 by artist and bronze caster Jan te Kulve. 21-04-2017 it was revealed.
