This is a very complex Multi-war Veterans Memorial. There are two monuments and a sculpture: Grace. The general memorial consists of three flags: USA, Colorado and POW/MIA. An obelisk relates the duties of a service member: Sacrifice; Integrity; Courage; Duty. There are colorful plaques mounted on the top of the monument that commemorate the four major branches of the US Military (Coast Guard and Space Force are not present). Nearby benches are engraved with the seal of each major branch and their motto. A sculpture of an eagle sits the specific Thornton Veterans monument adorned with inspirational quotes (listed below). A sculpture entitled "Grace" was donated by local Thornton artist Christopher Romer. The memorial is adjacent to the large Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center in northern Thornton.

"Originally a place for reflection, prayers, and gratitude, the memorial has expanded to include an obelisk along with memorial benches that are engraved with all of the branches that make up our military. Along with the name of the branch is the motto based on each service.

A sculptor from Thornton created a breathtaking statue and dedicated it to the Veterans Memorial. At just about four feet tall, Grace is an angel with an ample wingspan in order to show that those who have lost their lives saving and protecting ours are finally free. Additional imagery includes a dove who is carrying a set of dog tags, the traditional identification of all service personnel.

This impressive work of art, completely donated by artist Christopher Romero, costs close to $17,000. The bronze fixture is much appreciated by the residents of this fine city and they are honored to have Grace call their city home.

Another phase of the memorial serves as an informational area to educate visitors as to the history of what our country has gone through and the part that our veterans played in it. There are sections with each branch of the military hosting its own part in the history of the nation.

The Veteran’s Memorial Aquatic Center is host to an impressive pool of Olympic proportions including its 50-meter size filled with 765.000 gallons of water. The center is right next to the memorial and is home to an area that has a special memorial that is a tribute to graduates from Adams 12 Five Star Schools who perished while serving their country. The fully equipped Aquatic Center near the Thorncreek Golfcourse is open to the public based on availability on the listed schedule." (from (visit link) )

LEST WE FORGET
---
Grant rest, O Lord, to those no longer with us; Who died protecting us and this their land.
Bring healing, Lord, to those who, through their service, Bear conflict’s scars on body or in mind.
With those who mourn support and comfort share.
Give strength to those who for hurt loved-ones care.
(3rd Stanza Remembrance by) Charles Henrywood

It is the Soldier, not the minister, Who has given us freedom of religion.
It is the Soldier, not the reporter, Who has given us freedom of press.
It is the Soldier, not the poet, Who has given us freedom of speech.
It is the Soldier, not the campus organizer, Who has given us freedom to protest.
It is the Soldier, not the lawyer, Who has given us the right to a fair trial.
It is the Soldier, not the politician, Who has given us the right to vote.
It is the Soldier who salutes the flag, Who serves beneath the flag,
And whose coffin is draped by the flag, Who allows the protester to burn the flag.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.

Laurence Binyon (poem For the Fallen, written in September 1914)
