The plaque says, "The Barn was built in 1901 for agricultural use. In 1912, it was adapted for motion picture production in Hollywood. The exterior of the building interprets its important adaptation for a succession of motion picture production functions, retracing the history of motion picture industry itself.

The south elevation depicts the building's appearance at the end of the 1920s. This is the most symmetrically arranged of the four facades, with the central bead board wood painted door reached by four small wooden steps. Above is another large double bead board hinged barn hay door, flanked by small painted wood windows with wide casing. The south end wall of the building is all part of the original historic fabric. The Barn's primary entrance, which had been on the north side, was changed to the south during this era.

In 1929 the Barn became the Paramount Gymnasium, and remained as such until it closed in 1979. Amon the male stars who trained here are: Cornel Wilds, Charlton Heston, Michael Landon and Steve McQueen. Buster Keaton trained Donald O'Connor here for the 1957 Paramount film "The Buster Keaton Story.""
