"Pura Vázquez Iglesias
-poeta-
25-07-06 a los 87 años"

"Carmen Pura Vázquez Iglesias ( Orense , 31 as March as 1918 - Id . , 25 as July as 2006 ) was a poetess Spanish in Galician language and Spanish . Representative of postwar poetry , She opted for a lyrical and existentialist solution against more combative lines. Poet in Galician and Spanish, and sister of the also writer Dora Vázquez , she is among the Galician writers linked to emigration. She was the first woman who began to publish in Galician in the newspapers and magazines of Galicia and of the Galician emigration after the Civil War . She was also one of the pioneers in the field of children's and youth literature.

Biography
Born in the Orense neighborhood of Polvorín, she grew up in the city of La Coruña from almost her birth until she was seven years old, when she returned with her family to Orense , after her father, a post office official, had been transferred to that city. There she attended primary studies, Baccalaureate and the career of Teaching . She opposed the teacher and his first destinations were various locations in the Orense province and later in the provinces of Segovia , Toledo , Seville and Madrid . In Madrid She retired in 1985, when he became widowed, and returned definitively to Orense, where She lived the last twenty years of his life.

In 1955 she traveled for the first time to Venezuela, where she was commissioned by the Venezuelan authorities to organize and run a pilot kindergarten in Caracas . A year later, she was called by the Central University to be secretary of the School of Journalism, which then operated within the Faculty of Letters. There She also maintained contact with the literary field of Galician emigration. She returned to teaching in Spain in 1968 .

Poetic trajectory
She began to write and publish at a very young age, in Galician magazines and press, mainly orensanas. In 1944, the Orense Provincial Council published his first collection of poems in Spanish. Before, in 1943 , private individuals had already published an edition of 18 copies of another book also written in Spanish, but which already included nine poems in Galician , which for that date was something unusual. In this language She also published, already then, stories and poetry in Galician newspapers and magazines of Galicia and of the Galician emigration, as in the Galician Center of Buenos Aires.

In 1952, his book Íntimas totally already written in Galician was published as number two of the Xistral Collection . In Galicia, and later in the rest of Spain and in Venezuela, She continued to publish poetry, alternating Galician with Spanish. Later She went through an interval of about nine years without writing, for family and health reasons.

Already retired and returned to the family home of As Mercedes, in Orense , she published in 1990 and 1991 a poetic anthology in Spanish and another in Galician, where she collected part of the work she had been editing in all her previous years. From that moment on, he continued to publish poetry, mainly in Galician. Many of her works were edited by herself, outside of commercial publishers, and often written in four hands with her sister Dora Vázquez .
