At 1,510 Feet on High Knob, this location along the Catoctin Ridgeline presents a 180-degree view to the south and west.
The Civilian Conservation Corps built Gambrill State Park's facilities from local building materials-stone and oak trees. Thin soils have been removed by wind, water and gravity leaving behind only the toughest rock material.
Designed out of sandstone, quartzite, conglomerate, and phylite, the stone and wood architecture at Gambrill is a result of intelligence resource management, one of the foundations of the CCC.
