Usually, when we hunt for New World Ancient Evidence we know beforehand what to expect. But this one came to us totally unexpected. We went down to the American River in Folsom to take a picture for a Photos Then and Now waymark, when we found a sign pointing out the evidence.

According to the sign, the Nisenan People lived here for hundreds of years and thrived on a diet of salmon, deer, berries, seed and acorn. They used the rocks along the river’s edge to grind acorns.

So, these were the rocks they used. Unfortunately, we were not prepared to get our feet wet (it was January) and most of the rocks were out of reach.

We soon found one large grinding hole, but it was too far away.

But eventually we got lucky. After a while of searching, we found this one right at the river’s edge. What an unexpected adventure!

Wherever we find New World Ancient Evidence, the places always have a certain glow and radiate peace and serenity.
