Wikipedia (visit link)

The church of Sant'Agostino rises along the city stretch of the Via Emilia, in Imola. It was for centuries the church of the Augustinian fathers. The church was built by the Augustinian fathers in the mid-fourteenth century, when they moved here from the suburban convent located outside the Piolo gate. In fact, in those years Pope Clement VII had allowed them to occupy the ancient Romanesque church previously dedicated to St. Michael the Archangel, which already existed in the 12th century and is mentioned in documents as a parish starting from 1352.

Between the fourteenth and sixteenth centuries the building was enlarged several times, while the current appearance is due to the joint work of Domenico and Cosimo Morelli. Cosimo was responsible for the construction of the two large side chapels, the choir and the high altar. Under the Napoleonic domination the church was degraded to a subsidiary of Sant'Agata until 1826, when it became a parish again. The exterior, of harmonious perfection, still has traces ascribable to the 12th century, such as the finely decorated rose window and the crowning with corbels along the facade.

The interior, of perfect proportions, has a single nave onto which six side chapels open. Above the confessionals there are six statues, the work of Angelo and Domenico Piò. The sculptural group on the door depicting Saint Michael knocking down the devil between two angels is also by the Bolognese sculptor.

The church preserves an eighteenth-century organ made by Giovanni Chianei (active in the second half of the eighteenth century).

Jahrhunderts).
