"The Festa da Istoria is an authentic festival where they exist, in which they recreate, perfectly and for a day, what life was like in the Middle Ages, using for it the Jewish quarter of which the inhabitants of Ribadavia are so proud. A celebration in which everyone participates through ancient clothing and in which aspects of medieval and traditional life that have fallen into disuse are introduced today. An exceptional day in which we can learn about the history of this town, its currency (the maravedí) and its ancestral ways of life. A party in which the collaboration of the neighbors is decisive to be able to reproduce, with enough accuracy, the life of the Middle Ages with its markets, crafts, street performances, etc. The medieval atmosphere is breathed on all four sides of the city, especially in its famous Jewish quarter, with its solid stone houses, its arcades and the ruins of the Castillo de los Sarmiento (the market, dancing, dinner and theater). The main activities that we will be able to enjoy at the "Festa da Istoria" are the following: Side: A town crier announces the beginning of the Festa, with a reading of the Proclamation early in the morning. Parade: All attendees who so wish parade down the main street in period clothes. Maravedies and Banco de la Alhóndiga: The bank works from first thing in the morning, in it the euros will be exchanged for Maravedies, official currency of the party and essential to make any purchase during the festivities. Human Chess: Representation of three Chess games with living pieces dressed in period clothing. Jewish Wedding: Reconstruction of a traditional Jewish wedding organized by the Center for Medieval Studies. Medieval Dance: Dance accompanied by music groups. Falconry: Demonstrations of this art within the castle grounds. Archery and medieval tournament: The best archers in Galicia meet in Ribadavia to compete with vintage tools. Music and Theater: Representations of medieval-themed works. Medieval dinner: the last act of the party, one only for payment, which is held within the castle grounds, and which is mandatory to attend in period costume."
