The Monument to the Children of the World is a memorial on the North Cape Plateau in Norway. It is located southeast of the North Cape Hall and consists of seven large circular metal reliefs outlined by a granite ring that are arranged standing in a semicircle. Opposite them is a sculpture created by Eva Rybakken of mother and child, consisting of a female figure and a little boy who points with his left arm at the reliefs.
The templates for the seven reliefs were made in June 1988 by seven children from different nations who came together here for a week. An eighth relief explains the history of the monument in Norwegian and English. The monument was inaugurated in 1989.
The pencil sketch for this image was created when we stayed for a mid summers night at the north cape on July 21st in 2019. Point of view was nearby the position of mother and child. The sketch was later completed with a fine liner.
