After the Anglo-Newfoundland Development Company arrived in the region, many Catholic workers moved to Grand Falls. By 1909, they had their first chapel built, on this site. By 1912, the mission in Grand Falls received parish status.
When the current church was open for worship, Grand Falls became home to the cathedral for the diocese.
The Diocese of Grand Falls consists of thirty parishes, including this parish and nearby St. Joseph's in Windsor.
