Long Description:
Wooden dado and panelling in St Michael's church, Shirley, which is engraved with the date 1649, described as Jacobean period - (visit link) located at the east end of the south aisle.

Although described as Jacobean, which may be the style, the date of 1649 coincides with the last year of the reign of King Charles I (1624 - 1649), son of James I (1603 - 1625), and the beginning of the Interregnum (1649-1660) (visit link)

The panels are thought to be from a pew, and the carved initials C.C. and M.C. are of members of the Colwich family of Yeaveley (which used to be in Shirley Parish).
Approximate age of artefact (Year): 1649
