These whirligigs are made from bicycle parts (a wheel and front fork), odds and ends of scrap metal and a mirror designed to help truck drivers cut down on the size of their blind spot.

These two whirligigs are great examples of the many whirligigs that folks in Minnesota made and set up back in the 1970s. Many of them were made to put in or on the edge of gardens so that the movement would scare off or keep away birds and animals that were looking for a quick and easy meal. As guys, mostly, made a few of these they started thinking more about the ascetics (Grampa would have said Looks) and not just the functionality of the whirligig.

Folk-art at it's finest? Not really, but these two did start off a nice trip down memory lane.
