is obit from the 20 Aug 1891 Greenleaf Journal in Kansas read:

Clark Lipe Dead.

Denver, Aug 15, -- Clark Lipe died at his residence in this city last night. He was at one time one of the largest railroad contractors in the world. More than a quarter century ago his home was in Chicago, where he still has large property interests. He was a close friend of President Lincoln and a staunch supporter of his administration in the dark days of the rebellion. He has lost most of his fortune, but what is left is valued at $900.000.
