About the Metasequoia tree:
"Metasequoia is a genus of trees, of which only one species still exists, the water cypress. In the Tertiary the genus Metasequoia was common in the Northern Hemisphere as fossils show.
The still living species is considered a living fossil and was fairly common in East Asia (Japan, Korea and China) before the last Ice Age. Now the water cypress is naturally present only in central China in a closed valley in the Shui-Hsa-Pal valley and in Hubei province."
