Did you know that there is a Nazi flag on display at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland? I didn't either until I saw it inside Bancroft Hall. The story behind it is quite compelling and involves a German U-boat in north Africa.

The flag was inside a German U-boat (specifically U-505). It was captured by the US Navy off the north African coast in WWII on 4 June 1944. The U-boat is now a museum in Chicago, while this flag hangs as a reminder inside the rotunda of Bancroft Hall. When I visited on 27 August 2021, it was on the right hand side of the stairs in the memorial hall above the main entrance.
