Op het kerkhof van Polsbroek vond ik een apart graf. Het is ter ere van Cornelis (Cees) Mourik, het enige slachtoffer van de Tweede Wereldoorlog van Polsbroek. Cees Mourik was een verzetslid. Op zijn graf zijn ook de namen van de andere verzetsleden en de leden van de NBS (Nederlandse Binnenlandse Strijdkrachten) van Polsbroek gezet. Het graf is bekroond met de Nederlandse vlag.
Het verhaal van de dood van Cees Mourik is dramatisch (van hetverraadvanbenschop.nl):
"29 mei 1945, Polsbroek. Met zijn verzetsgroep oefent Teus van der Vlist op zijn erf op de Zuidzijdseweg 92 in het exerceren voor een bevrijdingsoptocht in Montfoort. Ook de 24-jarige Cees Mourik (vooraan, midden), zoon van de dorpsagent en verloofde van Martha Horden, is van de partij. Cees leert in Schoonhoven voor horlogemaker. Ieder van hen heeft een stengun. Op het commando van Teus moeten ze die naast zich op de grond zetten. Hoewel Jan Zijderlaan hun heeft geadviseerd om het magazijn er niet in te doen, hebben ze dat toch gedaan. Als Cees zijn stengun neerzet, gaat hij af. Een kogel dringt door zijn kin zijn hoofd binnen. Met spoed brengen ze hem naar het ziekenhuis in Gouda. Het mag niet baten. En zo heeft Polsbroek, 24 dagen na de bevrijding toch nog een oorlogsslachtoffer te betreuren."

In the cemetery of Polsbroek I found a separate grave. It is in honor of Cornelis (Cees) Mourik, Polsbroek's only victim of the Second World War. Cees Mourik was a member of the resistance. On his grave are also the names of the other resistance members and the members of the NBS (Dutch Interior Forces) van Polsbroek. The grave is crowned with the Dutch flag.
The story of Cees Mourik's death is dramatic (from hetverraadvanbenschop.nl):
"May 29, 1945, Polsbroek. With his resistance group, Teus van der Vlist exercises in his yard at the Zuidzijdseweg 92 in the exercise for a liberation procession in Montfoort. Also the 24-year-old Cees Mourik (front, middle), son of the village policeman and fiancée by Martha Horden, attends. Cees learns to be a watchmaker in Schoonhoven. Each of them has a sten gun. Teus orders them to place it on the ground next to them. Although Jan Zijderlaan has advised them not to put the warehouse in it. If Cees puts down his stengun, he goes off. A bullet penetrates through his chin into his head. They rush him to the hospital in Gouda. It does not help. And so Polsbroek, 24 days after the liberation, still a war victim to mourn."
