"Boonville has proclaimed itself a Purple Heart City, joining Branson and Lees Summit in Missouri, recognizing those who were wounded or killed in combat for their country. The official designation was made during the Veterans Day celebration at the Boonville High School on Friday.
'“The City of Boonville acknowledges the heroic contributions and sacrifices of these men and women in the military who reside in Boonville and elsewhere in this country, who were killed or suffered injuries while serving in the Armed Forces. We honor them today and every day and commend them for their acts of bravery while answering the call to service on behalf of the nation.” said the November 10 proclamation signed by Mayor Julie Thacher.
"Purple Heart City designations have been adopted by communities across the United States as part of an effort by a national veterans group, the Military Order of the Purple Heart." ~ Boonville Daily News, Nov. 14, 2017
