Four Information Signs as in pictures and text tell about the great Eagle Owl (Bubo bubo) that lives at Falun Mine.
One can read that the owl is one of the world's largest owls and that it lives in Europe and most of Asia. It has a length of 60-75 centimeters and a wingspan of 160-188 centimeters. In Sweden, however, it is rare and was protected in 1950. The great Eagle owl lays 2-3 eggs and the female incubates for about 35 days.
The owl may seem scary and eerie with its staring gaze, but it is quite peaceful. However, it eats only small animals such as mice, rats and the like.
Falun Copper Mine in Dalarna has been a major producer of copper until well into the 1800s. The mine is now open to the public and is inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
