This is a standard government issue headstone, with a cross at the top, and it reads:

In Memory of
William A Lange
S SGT US Army Air Forces
World War II
Nov 1 1911     Sep 12 1944
Purple Heart

-----

SSGT Lange is listed in the Tablets of the Missing at the Florence American Cemetery. There's not much to be found about his fate, other than that he was presumed dead after going Missing in Action. He was awarded a Purple Heart and the Air Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, while the Honor States website has a few tidbits. He hailed from nearby McLennan County, and was attached to the 515th Bomber Squadron, 376th Bomber Group, Heavy. It is pure speculation, but presumably he was lost during a mission over Italy.
