The stamp issued on September 15, 2000 by Austrian Post depicts one of the most famous views of the town Hallstatt situated between the southwestern shore of Hallstätter See and the steep slopes of the Dachstein massif, the town lies in the Salzkammergut region, on the national road linking Salzburg and Graz. Just the region Hallstatt-Dachstein / Salzkammergut was declared in 1997 as one of the World Heritage Sites in Austria by UNESCO. Hallstatt is at the core of the region.
