According to his obituary published on April 7, 2017.

"Thomas M. DeVine, 59, of North Street died unexpectedly at home this past weekend. Thom was born in Springfield, the son of the late Walter and Joan DeVine, and has lived in West Springfield for the past 25 years. He graduated from Classical High School, attended STCC and received his bachelor’s degree from Westfield State College. He owned and operated INNER CIRCLE SELF DEFENSE in West Springfield and Agawam. He was a Physical Education teacher for the area’s Catholic Schools for many years and has worked with the American Red Cross Emergency Relief teams. He dedicated his life to teaching self-defense programs for people of all ages and through his work has inspired countless children to do their best in all aspects of life." Obituary Link
