Mayor Pidcock passed on in 2012 while still serving as mayor. He was a veteran of both the U.S. Navy and U.S. Army, and before becoming mayor, had served on the town council. It wasn't long after that the town decided to rework their existing flagpole into a memorial with room for expansion.

A story in the July 12, 2013 edition of the Cross Timbers Gazette indicates that Double Oak resident Phillip Blan contributed to the effort as part of his Eagle Scout service project, working with numerous other Boy Scouts and guided by contractors from Grapevine-based Pavestone Co. The previous flagpole was replaced with a new one, double the original's size at 30', and 12" x 12" brick pavers were placed at the base of the flagpole for use in future memorials.

The focal point of the Tom Pidcock Honor Memorial is the bench, a five by two by two block comprised of quarry stone, Milsap stone and Oklahoma flagstone weighing in at 1,900 pounds. It's fairly sturdy, and was funded through donations from Double Oak residents and businesses. "Mayor Tom Pidcock Honor Memorial" is on a plaque on the front of the bench. While one of the pavers notes Phillip's work and his troop number, the June 22, 2013 completion date had to wait a few weeks, as the memorial was officially unveiled on July 4th.
