A simple name like the King's Head or the Queen's Head avoids the need to change the pub name when a new monarch ascends the throne.

Some pubs adopt an even simpler method and call the pub the Crown which can indicate either a king or a queen.

Confusingly this pub has retained the name of the King's Head, but still uses a symbol of a crown to avoid depicting a particular monarch.

An outline of a generic crown has been used rather than a particular crown and consists of a metallic silhouette of a crown held within an oval metal frame. The same design is also painted onto the wall of the pub, underneath the word head.
