Little Fort Volunteer Fire DepartmentIn 2018, the fate of the Little Fort Volunteer Fire Department with three other small communities was undetermined. The only options were to close these, operated by their own societies, fire departments or become part of the Thompson-Nicola Regional District.
Fortunately, the petition was approved and the Little Fort Volunteer Fire Department survived, along with the other three communities.
Most interesting about this time, the Little Fort Volunteer Fire Department became an extension of the Little Fort Community Hall. Prior to this the fire department had just a small metal building to store equipment. This has since been removed.
Since becoming part of Thompson-Nicola Regional District, extensive training was required, stricter hiring criteria was enacted and new standards and guidelines were set by the TNRD.

Training is conducted in the community hall. There are 10 firefighter volunteers on call. They have assisted other fire departments locally with traffic emergencies and wild fires in the area. They respond to emergencies for local residents and businesses in Little Fort.
Little Fort is the center for some of the best fly fishing in North America, with hundreds of quality lakes and several pristine rivers in the area. The area is well known for it wide mouth trout and kokanee drawing anglers from across British Columba and Canada.
Little Fort is a tiny community of approximately 300 residents with the economy boosted by traffic on the Yellowhead Highway. There are just a few businesses in town one being the High Five Diner including motel and campground, Little Fort Fly and Tackle, a food store, community hall which is also home to the fire department. Little Fort also relays on traditional businesses like farming and cattle ranching, forestry, fishing resorts, and guest ranches.
