"KIRKWOOD, Mo. (KMOV.com) – The city of Kirkwood is planning to honor the lives lost after a gunman went on a shooting rampage at city hall 10 years ago with a remembrance ceremony.

"The ceremony will be held at the steps on the east side of Kirkwood City Hall, located at 139 S. Kirkwood Rd, Wednesday at 7 p.m.

"Attendees will light candles and hear a few remarks before marching toward Memorial Walkway, a memorial plaza on the northwest corner of City Hall to McEntee Memorial Park.

"Organizers said the program will last no longer than 30 minutes and will include a color guard.

"A section of Kirkwood Rd between Argonne Drive and Monroe Avenue will be closed for the ceremony before 6 p.m. WATCH: Kirkwood City Hall Shooting: Raw Video from the Scene.  On Feb. 7, 2008, Charles "Cookie" Thornton   entered a public meeting a city hall and opened fire in a courtroom. "Thornton killed two police officers, Sgt. William “Bill” Biggs and Officer Tom Ballman, and three city leaders, Councilwoman Connie Karr, Councilman Michael Lynch and Public Works Director Kenneth Yost.

"The gunman wounded two others, a Suburban Journals reporter Todd Smith and Kirkwood Mayor Mike Swoboda before police killed him.

"Swoboda died seven months later from complications related to his injuries.
