The president of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, met this week with the president of Aena, Maurici Lucena, in order to discuss the recovery of the 'Manriqueña identity' of the César Manrique Airport in Lanzarote and to transfer to this the need that the main gateway to the island for visitors has modern and sustainable facilities that honor the Conejero artist.
Dolores Corujo held this meeting with the president of the Airport Society in Madrid, accompanied by the mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz, and his counterpart in San Bartolomé, Alexis Tejera.
Given the importance of César Manrique in the culture, art, economy and tourism of Lanzarote, the president of the Insular Institution regretted that "in recent years, we have been losing the essence of the Conejero artist in an airport that even carries his name, so we must provide the Island with infrastructures at the height of one of our greatest exponents at the international level ".
"We want tourists and visitors to Lanzarote to be impregnated as soon as they enter our territory with values, culture and aesthetics based on sustainability promoted by César Manrique," said Dolores Corujo.
This meeting supports the Island Council's commitment to a modification and modernization of the island's airport, after the president met with the Minister of Development of the Government of Spain, José Luis Ábalo.
At that meeting, the content of the César Manrique-Lanzarote Airport Master Plan and the modification of some of its guidelines were addressed, in order to offer answers to the needs of the Island and to enable facilities compatible with the Lanzarote development model. .
