A white marble shield with pediment memorial for James Johnston inside Old Kirk Braddan (Church of St. Brendan) at Braddan Bridge in Braddan. It is mounted on the north wall of the nave in front of the balcony.

The epitaph on the memorial is as follows:

"SACRED TO THE MEMORY OF
JAMES JOHNSTON,
FARMER AT CALMORK IN THIS ISLAND,
WHO WAS PREMATURELY CARRIED OFF
IN THE MIDST OF A LIFE OF ACTIVE
INDUSTRY AND USEFULNESS,
BY A SEVER FEVER IN NOVEMBR. 1784
IN THE THIRTY-SIXTH YEAR OF HIS AGE.
THIS TABLET
Is ERECTED BY HIS YOUNGEST SON
ALEXR. LAWRIE JOHNSTON,
OF SINGAPORE IN THE EAST INDIES
A.D. 1842
_____________"

Unfortunately, as James farmed and lived in the 18th Century there are no readily available records of his work and life at Camlork.
I have searched a number of family history website but have been unable to verify the information on the memorial which was placed by Alexander Lawrie in 1842.

Camlork when farned at Camlork was a very rural area a couple of miles from the town of Douglas but it is now part of the town’s suburbs with the expansion of the town in the 19th and 20th Centuries.
Location: Inside Old Kirk Braddan (Church of St. Brendan) at Braddan Bridge in Braddan
