"On the corner of Wilhelminasingel and Lovensdijkstraat you will find since 1954 this Maria Chapel. It is a gift from Breda to the Polish community as a thank you for the liberation on October 29, 1944. The dedication took place on October 31, 1954.
In the chapel is an image of the Polish Madonna based on an icon of the Black Madonna of Czestochowa in Czestochowa, a pilgrimage site in southern Poland. It is made of mosaic tiles and inlaid with precious stones and gold leaf. Around it is a sandstone frame by Frans Verhaak. The Madonna was made by Jan Gladdines.
The beds in front of the monument are filled with red and white flowers, the Polish colors."
