The name of the new church becomes known: “De Open Poort.” There are various stories about this name. In any case, members of the congregation were asked to bring in suitable names. Most likely it was Elder and milkman G. Boes who brought in this name. It is not known whether he only thought of the line from the well-known song from John the Lord's collection “I see a gate standing wide open”, or also of the open and hospitable congregation that was to house this building. The latter is in any case (become) characteristic of the municipality of De Open Poort.
