The Information Centre is on the main floor just as you enter the Pomeroy Sport Centre (PSC). There is local and regional information available as well as sportswear. On the third floor are many display cases with sport memorabilia.

In 2013 the Visitor Centre made the logical move up to the sports hub of the commmunity, the PSC. One of Fort St. John's busiest and most visited facilities, the Visitor Centre's relocation to the centre was a real no-brainer. Details follow.

FORT ST. JOHN – For those passing through the city their first destination may very well be the Pomeroy Sport Centre because it is now the new home to the Fort St. John Visitor Centre.

The Visitor Centre is located on the right when you walk through the main doors of the PSC.

“We are thrilled to welcome the Visitor Centre to our facility and are excited about the opportunity to assist both residents and visitors,” said a city press release.

“The Visitor Centre’s central location in the PSC is a natural fit as there are many people that already access the facility for conferences, events, sports and the Energetic Learning Campus.”

It will be opened seven days a week, from Monday to Friday at 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. It will still offer the same services like information on what’s happening around the community and places and sights to visit in and around Fort St. John.

The previous location in the red and blue building on 96 Avenue and 100 Street is slated for demolition.

“It used to be a restaurant, the old-style A&W, it’s a wonderful-looking little building in the summer time but in the winter time there’s heating issues with all those windows so it’s slated to be taken down,” said Mayor Lori Ackerman.

The Farmers’ Market came forward this past summer looking to take over the building, however it is unsure whether or not they still plan to go ahead with it. A representative for the Market could not be reached by press time. Ackerman said the city will go ahead with their plans to take it down.
