This website (
visit link) information about this new band shell which officially opened on August 6, 2021:
"A Permanent Bayside Performance Park
The San Diego Symphony Summer Pops have always been a popular bay front venue in the summer with different themes and musicians each weekend at the Embarcadero. Now we’ll have a permanent bayside amphitheater all year long and construction is almost done! The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park will be another reason to live in Downtown San Diego!
On May 21, the symphony will stream “What’s That Sound? First Music from the Rady Shell,” which features members of the orchestra performing music by Mozart and Wagner.
The 3,724 square foot permanent amphitheater will be world class acoustical design with a technological advanced sound system and an unobstructed sightline.
The stage will have dramatic landscaping and lighting, a dining pavilion, and year round access.
The curved acoustic bandshell will be composed of similar material to what covers the San Diego Convention Center Sail Pavilion and the Lindbergh Field Terminal 2 arrival plaza.
The acoustic shell will include a 5,445-square-foot public viewing deck with concrete steps at the back of the stage, a 68-stall restroom and two pavilions on a 15,242-square-foot area.
An iconic venue where culture meets nature and brings visitors to San Diego to create magical moments”. Martha Gilmer, CEO San Diego Symphony"
