A restored 1947 Dodge firetruck formerly in service with the Block Island Fire Department is on display at the Jamestown Fire Museum in Jamestown, Rhode Island. It is operational and taken out for a drive every few weeks.

In the summer sun its red body paint radiates, gilded lettering glimmers, and pride of workmanship and history glows. Wood boards with scalloped corners are attached to the left and right sides of the truck with this message of appreciation in red lettering against a solid black finish:

"Jamestown Fire Dept. Memorial Museum 1947 Dodge Firetruck Restored by FF Lewis Kitts in honor of the brave dedicated members of Jamestown Fire Dept. & Block Island Fire Dept."

From a 2016 So Rhode Island article, "Rescuing a Classic - A local firefighter has restored a '47 Dodge fire engine": "For five years, Lew invested his personal time and money to restore it to a working fire engine; now it’s operational, pumping 250 gallons per minute and shining with new paint and lettering. Every two weeks, Lew steers the four-speed, flat head six cylinder from the open cab down to Beavertail Light, even right through the winter. Now, just awaiting the perfect new brass bell, Engine 2 is ready for a parade."

You can now see that bell mounted just behind the driver's seat...and in front of a rubber chicken. Ding! Ding! Buh-GAWK!
