The Pilgrims Door is a sculpture at the Lieve Vrouwenkerkhof in the city of Amersfoort. The monumental door weighs 1700 kg and with 20 m2, it is the largest bronze door in the Netherlands. It depicts Maria with seven sorrows and the seven virtues.

On holidays in Amersfoort and one of the things you should see is the Onze Lieve Vrouwentoren. Even though the tower is impressive by itself, I was even more impressed with the massive door depicting Mary as the Blue Cloaked Madonna. Furthermore, someone from the local tourist office was explaining about the door (and the tower) when we were there. Really nice.
"The door shows Mary as the Blue Cloaked Madonna, who protects the pilgrims with her cloak. The cloth has reliefs of the seven sorrows and the seven virtues. Reliefs have also been placed on the inside. The Pilgrims Door was presented to the city by the Open Oog foundation on 15 March 2014 and was gratefully accepted by Deputy Mayor Hans Buijtelaar.
Description
On the outside of the door is a bronze artwork that extends over the two door wings and the Gothic tympanum above. Depicted is a stylized, standing Mantle Madonna, with various reliefs in her mantle
The fourteen diamond-shaped reliefs on the outside of the door refer to the seven sorrows (Simeon's prediction (Luke 2-22-38); flight into Egypt (John 2-1)); the twelve-year-old Jesus in the temple (Luke 2- 46); way of the cross (Luke 23-26); crucifixion & dice (John 19-18); taking down the cross and entombment) and the seven virtues (The Good News (Luke 1-26-28); the visit of Elizabeth (Luke 1-39-56), the birth of Jesus (Luke 2-1-6), the visit of the wise men from the east (Matt. 28-6-7), the resurrection of Christ ( Matt. 28-6-7); the weekend of Pentecost & Acts (Luke 1-14 & 2-14); the Assumption of Mary).
Three reliefs in the tympanum on the inside refer to the miracle of Amersfoort and show resp. the legend of Geertje Arends from Nijkerk, the vision of Margriet Alberts from Amersfoort and the discovery of the statue of Mary in the hole. The other reliefs show the stream of pilgrims hiding at Maria"
