Capela de Nossa Senhora dos Verdes

[PT]

"The building of the Chapel of Our Lady of the Greens is linked to a terrible plague of caterpillars that invaded the fields. Discouragement led residents to seek protection of the miraculous Lady of Green:" If the epidemic of caterpillar that infests the fields and devours fruits of the earth disappear, Our Lady of the Greens will have a beautiful chapel and his image will be worshiped. "trees again produce tasty fruits, the promise was fulfilled. year 1756 was then built a chapel of devotion to Our Lady of green.
On March 7, 1959, to Manteigas came the sad news of a major traffic accident in which just lost the lives of Fatima Maria, daughter of Sir Francisco Esteves. The pain and grief, coupled with great devotion to Our Lady of the Greens, led the family Esteves, for the repose of the soul of his daughter, to make the gift of expanding the small chapel.
Made studies, the responsible of the Parish and the Diocese decided to totally replace the old chapel, giving rise to the present Chapel of dimensions more convenient and modern style. This chapel was blessed on April 30, 1961 by D. Policarpo da Costa Vaz - Venerable Bishop of Guarda.
The traditional festival in honor of Our Lady of the Green is held on the last Sunday of September. "
