This striking Romanesque courthouse was constructed in 1891, after the first courthouse burned down - possibly due to arson, as many neighboring towns vied for the position of county seat. The building served as county courthouse until the 1970s, when a modern building was constructed just to the west. The historic courthouse is now owned by the Marshall County Historical Society, who spent upwards of $200,000 to restore the building. The building now houses the Historical Society, a research library, and a history museum.
