A large boulder with a bronze plaque honors the memory of Lt. William Hassett Kane. The plaque is inscribed:

Lt. William Hassett Kane was the only commissioned officer from Westfield to be killed in World War I. He was assigned to the Machine Gun Company, 137th Infantry, 35th Divsion of the American Expeditionary Forces.
