FIN] Mikaelinkirkko on Turun keskustassa, Port Arthurin kaupunginosassa sijaitseva kirkkorakennus. Kirkko on nimetty Arkkienkeli Mikaelin mukaan. Se on muodoltaan kolmilaivainen pitkäkirkko, jonka torni on 77 metriä korkea. Sitä on peruskorjattu vuosina 1984–1987. Kirkossa on 1250 istumapaikkaa ja se on suosittu konsertti- ja vihkikirkko.
Mikaelinkirkko on rakennettu vuosina 1899–1905. Sen on suunnitellut Lars Sonck, joka oli 24-vuotias arkkitehtiopiskelija voittaessaan kirkon suunnittelukilpailun vuonna 1894. Sonckin ehdotus, Soli Deo gloria aeterna , peittosi jopa Sonckin opettajan tekemän kilpailuehdotuksen. Vanhemmat arkkitehdit pitivät voittoa sopimattomana ja suunniteltiin jopa potkuja Sonckille polyteknillisestä opistosta. Kirkon arkkitehtuuri edustaa uusgotiikkaa ja jugendia. Vaikka Mikaelinkirkon todetaan saaneen valmistuttuaan osakseen pelkkää ihailua, arkkitehti Sonck ei myöhemmällä iällään ollut siihen itse tyytyväinen. Ennen kirkon rakennustöiden alkua Sonck kävi Keski-Euroopassa, jossa jugendtyyli oli saavuttanut suosiota ja kotiin palattuaan hän teki uuden kirkkosuunnitelman voittaneen ehdotuksen korvaajaksi, mutta suunnitelman vaihtoon ei suostuttu. Sonck vaati kirkon rakentamisaikana koko ajan kirkkoon suuria muutoksia, joista osaan pystyttiin myöntymään, osaan taas ei. Kun Sonck sitten myöhemmällä iällään vieraili Turussa, hän ei koskaan halunnut mennä lähellekään Mikaelinkirkkoa.
[EN] St. Michael's Church is a church building located in the center of Turku, in the Port Arthur district. The church is named after Archangel Michael. It is a three-nave long church with a tower 77 meters high. It was renovated between 1984 and 1987. The church has 1,250 seats and is a popular concert and wedding church.
St. Michael's Church was built between 1899 and 1905. It was designed by Lars Sonck, a 24-year-old architecture student when he won a church design competition in 1894. Sonck’s proposal, Soli Deo Gloria aeterna, even overshadowed the competition proposal made by Sonck’s teacher. Older architects considered the profit inappropriate and even planned kicks for Sonck from a polytechnic college. The architecture of the church represents neo-Gothic and Art Nouveau. Although St. Michael's Church is said to have received admiration after graduation, the architect Sonck was not satisfied with it himself at a later age. Prior to the commencement of church construction, Sonck visited Central Europe, where the Art Nouveau style had gained popularity, and on returning home he made a proposal to replace the new church plan, but refused to change the plan. During the construction of the church, Sonck constantly demanded major changes to the church, some of which could be conceded, some not. When Sonck then visited Turku at a later age, he never wanted to go anywhere near St. Michael's Church.
