This YMCA is located on the corner of West 10th and Peach Streets in downtown Erie, Pennsylvania. The YMCA of Greater Erie was founded in 1860 and the downtown YMCA building was constructed in 1910. The cornerstone of the building includes both of these dates, along with a chi-rho symbol, a triangle with the words "spirit, mind, body" on it, and a small book with "John 17:21" written on it. This is the verse from St. John's Gospel during the last supper when Jesus prayed, "That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me." A stone plaque on the side of the building states, "This building erected by the people of Erie to the glory of God the honor of Jesus Christ and for the welfare of men."
