m&m O was to see the International Space Station in Minnesota. At 21:36:23 CDT it would be at the maximum altitude of 57° with a predicted magnitude of -3.3. Alas, the wildfires caused too much haze added to some cloud cover in Minnesota to allow the Station to be seen at site 1.
I went to the football field in Altoona, Pennsylvania because there are fewer trees there. There were a few clouds in the sky, but I could see stars and an airplane, so was hopeful that the International Space Station would also be visible. I first saw the space station at 22:38 EDT, which, from the chart on Heavens Above, was quite a distance from Altoona. It moved steadily along, still visible at the maximum altitude of 62° at 22:40:22 EDT with a magnitude of -3.6, until at 22:40:28 EDT it disappeared into the haze to the southeast.
The time between the two closest viewing spots at the Waymarker locations was four minutes. The distance traveled between the two watchers was just shy of 1,172 miles.
This is the third time I have seen the International Space Station and each time I am filled with wonder. The fact that the Heavens Above site can pinpoint the exact location of the station is awesome, too.
