The Statue
The Emma Monument is a statue in Middelburg, dedicated to Queen Emma. The statue is by Henk Etienne and is located on Damplein. The statue is made of limestone and represents the Queen seated on a chair. On the left side of the chair is the coat of arms of Oranje-Nassau, on the right side the coat of arms of Waldeck-Pyrmont. The pedestal is formed by three steps. At the front of the top step is the text Nederland be great in everything in which even a small nation can be great. The text on the back of the chair: in memory of her majesty QUEEN EMMA, 1858 - 1934, founded by the residents of the province of ZEELAND, unveiled by h.m. Queen Wilhelmina, 6 september 1937, h.j. Etienne sculptor.

Queen Emma
Adelheid Emma Wilhelmina Theresia, Princess of Waldeck and Pyrmont, born Adelaïde Emma Wilhelmina Therese Prinzessin zu Waldeck und Pyrmont (Arolsen, 2 August 1858 – The Hague, 20 March 1934), was the second wife of King William III of the Netherlands from 7 January 1879 until his death on November 23, 1890 and Queen Regent of the Netherlands from 1890 to 1898. As regent she assumed the royal authority; first a few days before her husband's death, the following years for her underage daughter Wilhelmina, the Queen.
