Porto Cabello (aka Puerto Cabello) may either be a port in Venezuela or Brazil.
Thomas Edwin's parents lived in Church Street in the town of Ramsey in the northeast of the Isle of Man. Ramsey is still a busy commercial port.
Thomas Edwin received his 'Mates Certificate of Service', 3 years before his untimely death, on 20 March 1851, when he was aged 20 years. The Certificate shows that Thomas Edwin had served for 6 years as Apprentice Mate in the British Merchant service in the Foreign Coasting Trade.
Thomas Edwin had only been married to Jane Lancaster (nee Kirkhaugh) for 18 months at the time of his death.
