This mural was painted in Harmabee Square, Rocky Mount to honor the late jazz musician Thalonious Monk. Thalonious Monk was born in Rocky Mount October 10, 1917. He studied music and became an internationally acclaimed jazz musician and composer. He died February 17, 1982 and was post humorously awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement award in 1993, as well as the Pulitzer Prize Special Citation in 2006.
