Ik was in Tilburg voor werk en zag op de kaart Peerke Donders staan. Dat klonk bekend en naar mijn weten is het een van de meest bezochte heiligenvereringsplekken in Nederland. Tijdens het bezoek zag ik een hele mooie kruisweg. Je volgt een kronkelend pad door het Peerke Donderspark.

"Het kruiswegpark werd aangelegd in 1926. In eerste instantie stonden er kruiswegbeelden in die waren overgenomen van het grootseminarie in Hoeven. Tien jaar later werd de opdracht voor een nieuwe kruisweg gegeven aan P. Verbraak & Zonen uit Tilburg. Dit atelier was beroemd in zijn tijd en gespecialiseerd in religieuze kunst. De eerste statie (halteplaats) werd in 1937 geplaatst, de laatste in 1961. De kruiswegstaties werden bekostigd door duizenden Tilburgers. Tilburgers uit die tijd hebben model gestaan voor de beelden. De gezichten die u ziet zijn dus letterlijk de gezichten van Tilburgers die toen leefden. De kruiswegbeelden zijn in 2004 gerestaureerd. I was in Tilburg for work and saw Peerke Donders on the map. That sounded familiar and to my knowledge it is one of the most visited places of worship in the Netherlands. During the visit I saw a very beautiful way of the cross. You follow a winding path through the Peerke Donderspark.

"The Way of the Cross Park was laid out in 1926. Initially, it contained Ways of the Cross that were copied from the major seminary in Hoeven. Ten years later, the commission for a new Way of the Cross was given to P. Verbraak & Zonen from Tilburg. This studio was famous for its time and specialized in religious art. The first station (stopping point) was placed in 1937, the last in 1961. The stations of the cross were paid for by thousands of Tilburgers. Tilburgers from that time served as models for the images. The faces you see are therefore literal the faces of Tilburgers who lived then. The Way of the Cross statues were restored in 2004.
