Island Lake is part of the Sky Lakes Wilderness within the Winema National Forest. There is a trailhead along Forest Road 3659 which heads west from the well-graveled Forest Road 3651, which heads north off Highway 140. The Lost Creek Way Trail starts at this trailhead heading west for 1.5 miles until connecting to the Badger Lake Trail heading north a short ways before connecting to the Blue Lake Basin Loop. You take the Blue Canyon Trail heading west from the trail junction (Red Lake Trail heads north from here) about .3 miles and you'll see a small trail heading north about .2 miles to Island Lake.
