Pendant des siècles, pour faire entrer des marchandises de toute nature dans les villes, il fallait payer l'octroi, une sorte de douane intérieure. Avant d'être supprimé après la libération, on suppose que l'octroi de Manosque était à cet endroit. Un étroit passage dans lequel on peut encore voir un immeuble de la fin du moyen âge et sa grande pièce voûtée relie la place à la rue Grande
