While the trailhead can be deceiving, the trail is only paved for the first .25 miles. After that, it is all single track dirt with a section north of Miller Heights Road that is hard packed gravel. Overall, the northern 16 miles are mostly dirt with some minor exceptions.
Note: The maps on the sign focus on the south portion of the trail but it is all sidewalk south of the trailhead and your best bet is to travel north.
