The parking lot on the west side of Almonte Street can be found at the posted co-ordinates. There is another older parking lot across the street, serving Gemmill Park.

The park is named for Dr. Archibald Metcalfe (1869-1962), a local physician, councilor and mayor (for many terms). There is also a plaque on site commemorating Sir William E. Logan (1798-1875), founder of the Geological Survey of Canada.

This park is the first municipal geological heritage park in Canada. In addition to the detailed interpretive panel explaining the geology of the region, there are more than twenty large, display rock specimens which provide easy-to-understand learning through QR codes.

There is direct access to the Mississippi River but there are no sport-based facilities on site.
