The "then" photo is of the laying of the cornerstone of Cathedral Preparatory School on West 9th Street in downtown Erie, Pennsylvania by Bishop John Mark Gannon on October 29, 1942. The photo was published in the book, "That You Love One Another," The Life and Times of Archbishop John Mark Gannon by Rev. Robert G. Barcio in 1996 (p. 351). According to the same book, on the day the cornerstone was laid, Bishop Gannon celebrated his silver jubilee as a bishop and fortieth anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood with a Solemn Pontifical Mass. After the Mass, a procession led to the site of the new school building and the bishop blessed and laid the cornerstone. The cornerstone says, "Dedicated to Jesus Christ and Youth, John Mark Gannon, Bishop of Erie, Jubilarian, 40 years priest, 25 years bishop, 1942." The "now" photo shows the cornerstone as it is 2021. The school is still in operation today.
Year photo was taken: 1942
