The Chisholm Trail Museum is a large, extensive museum documenting the history of this area and the Chisholm Trail. It is located at 605 Zellers Avenue. The time capsule is located in the grass at the sidewalk in front of the museum.

On a small concrete pad, a pink granite monument is engraved with the head of a longhorn steer and the dates 1867 and 1997. 1867 was the year the Chisholm Trail began its service as the trail over which 5 million cattle were brought from Texas to the railheads in Kansas. It is assumed that the date of June 28, 1997 is when the time capsule was set. When it is to be opened is not indicated.
