Garden Oaks School - Oklahoma City, OK - Former Schools on Waymarking.com

No longer a school, Garden Oaks was one of the "Dowell Schools". It is located on the north side of N.E. 16th, east of Bryant Ave. The property is completely fenced off right now, but work is in progress to make this a new community center (see link below).

From The Oklahoman:
These are known as "the Dowell schools," after A.L. Dowell, a local optometrist who filed the desegregation lawsuit against the district in 1961 after his son, Robert, was denied admission to Northeast High School.

But the five Dowell schools are ranked in the bottom 10, and four in the bottom five, among elementary schools in achievement test results. Another Dowell school, Garden Oaks, was ranked 11th from the bottom. Of seven Oklahoma City schools on the state education department's lists of at-risk and low-performing schools, four are Dowell schools.
